I’ve always loved the classical look that photographers such as Patrick Lichfield used to create. His work was a massive influence on me – and here’s a prime example. This is from a shoot I did today with Alfie (5) and Evie (3). They were both lovely children to work with and they were telling me how much they were looking forward to playing in the snow tomorrow.

Two shots for you today.

Firstly eleven month old Rocco (really cool name!) thought it would be a great idea to have a portrait taken with his mummy, so he came along with his granny for a portrait shoot. Next we have Louise who wanted me to capture a very special time of her life. Louise’s other children, Tyler and Honey Mae can’t wait for the arrival of their new family member!

Here’s our final entry into our ABC Magazine Cover Star competition.

This the beautiful Marley Skye who’s 8 months old. I love this shot as it has a great Springtime feel. We also did some fantastic moody black and white shots too – which I’m really pleased with. But for the time-being, I’m keeping those for mum and dad’s eyes only – and for an upcoming portrait competition!

I met this lovely little fella yesterday. Brandon (4) came in with his mum and dad for a family portrait shoot. We had a lengthy discussion about the rights and wrongs of having pineapple on your pizza. He was for it, I was very much against!

I do quite a lot of ‘high key’ family portraiture, which basically means photographing your subjects against white backgrounds. Its a very popular style with everyone because of its clean, fresh look. However, in the last few months I’ve been experimenting with a darker, moodier and a more classical look to my photographs, which is proving to be quite a hit with my clients.  Today I had the very beautiful Elizabeth in the studio and I couldn’t resist doing a classical style portrait with her.  Hope you like it!

I am one VERY happy photographer!

On Sunday, I attended the Master Photography Awards in Newcastle, which is the photographic industry’s premier annual award ceremony for professional photographers.

During the evening, I was thrilled to learn that I had won the prestigious title of Fujifilm / MPA Portrait Photographer of the Year.  The ‘Fuji’s', as its known, is a competition open to all  professional photographers in the UK and attracts a very high volume of entries. What is great about this competition is that the clients of the winning images can also benefit too – in this case the winning client gets a big fat cheque for £1,000.00! So it was with enormous pleasure that I was able to contact one of my clients to tell them that they had won the top prize! Needless to say they were over the moon. A huge congratulations to the beautiful Daisy (pictured above) from Bishops Stortford and her family who won the big prize.

Furthermore, the competition is also aimed to help the charity PACE, who help children affected by cerebral palsy. For every photograph submitted, £1.00 is donated to the charity. This year a cheque for £3,000.00 was presented to radio legend Dave Lee Travis, who is a patron of the charity.
