I’ve always loved the classical look that photographers such as Patrick Lichfield used to create. His work was a massive influence on me – and here’s a prime example. This is from a shoot I did today with Alfie (5) and Evie (3). They were both lovely children to work with and they were telling me how much they were looking forward to playing in the snow tomorrow.

In March we made some big improvements to the studio, which has resulted in our clients having a much improved and more comfortable experience when they visit us. The improvements meant that we had to close for nearly 3 months to get everything into place and not being able to do any business during that time was challenge for us, but its been worth it. A lot of you – especially our returning clients have commented to me how fantastic everything now looks.

In October, we learnt we had won one of the biggest portrait photography competitions in the UK – namely the Fujifilm/MPA Portrait Awards. Out of the ten finalists places available, we were the only studio in the UK to get three of those places. But it was our client of the winning photograph who was most pleased. For winning the competition, they were given a cheque for £1,000.00! The second phase of judging for the MPA / Fujifilm Wedding & Portrait Awards has been completed and I am over the moon to find out that one of my photographs has got through to the final! I am particularly thrilled about this as after getting two images through in the first phase of judging, 3 out of the 10 images in the finals are mine.

A huge congratulations goes to 3 year old Daisy from Bishops Stortford, who join my other clients, Lottie from Bishops Stortford and Toyin from London. The winner will be announced at the Master Photography Awards in Newcastle on 9th October. The outright winner of the Portrait category will walk off with a cool £1,000.00. I’m keeping my fingers crossed the winner will be one of my clients.

Here’s a selection of photographs from recent shoots.

Starting from the top we have sisters Phoebe and Fenella. Originally I was just going to photograph Fenella on her own, but I managed to persuade Phoebe to be in some of the shots too - and I’m really glad she joined in. I think they both look fabulous.

Next we have brothers Oliver(4) and Riley(1). Sometimes it can be a bit of a challenge getting children of this age combination to sit together (as they often want to do everything else except have their photograph taken!), but they were both very good and fun to work with.

And finally there’s Rhys(6), who, as you can see has these amazing piercing eyes. He was telling me how much he loves Pepperoni pizza with pineapple. He assured me that it was delicious!

 Their daughter Dora (shown above) is no stranger to me. Indeed, one of my past shots of her and her dad won me two national awards back in 2007. The winning photograph is shown below.

This is Varina, Mataya, Amal at Matt. Varina and her family are regular vistors to my studio. The shots I’ve taken of them have been extremely successful in winning awards. To date the photographs of her and her family have won a national title (UK Mother & Child Photographer of the Year) and 3x Awards of Excellence. So when Varina calls asking me to do some more photographs, I get very excited!

I was due to take this family portrait back in March, but unfortunately, the shoot had to be abandoned due to Varina going down with a nasty bout of food poisoning a few minutes before I was due to do the group shot! Everyone was back in the studio yesterday fit and well and we did some really fab shots of all of them together.
