What a weekend its been! On Sunday I attended the Master Photography Awards, which is the UK’s premier award ceremony for professional photographers, which is hosted by the Master Photographers Association. The event celebrates the very best in image making by qualified Master Photographers.
During the evening, I was thrilled to discover that I had been awarded the Epson / MPA Black & White Photographer of the Year award. I cannot tell you how pleased I was to win this. Black and white photography is a passion of mine and is very difficult to do properly. For my work to be recognised as some of the best in the country is a massive honour. We beat some of the biggest names in the industry. The winning photo is shown above.
But that wasn’t all…
After my award had been announced, I sat back and relaxed to enjoy the rest of the evening and have a few glasses of wine. Unbeknown to me, my photo had also been nominated for another gong – namely the Open Category award. When it was announced I had won that too, I couldn’t believe it! In addition to these awards, I also won an Award of Excellence for another image (see second colour photo) entered into the Portrait Art category.
The icing on the cake for me was when my award was presented to me by one of the world’s greatest living fashion and portrait photographers – John Swannell. I absolutely love his work and to get to shake his hand was a huge thrill. The above photo shows me, John Swannell (left) and world-renowned fine art photographers, Trevor and Faye Yerbury.
I’ve been to this award ceremony for the last 10 years and without doubt this was the best year ever. The quality of the work displayed was absolutely fantastic. Thanks to everyone at the MPA for making it a great night.
